Daily Cleaning

In order to keep your Persian rug in the best condition possible, it is important to ensure it is kept clean to prolong its longevity and quality. With a lighter carpet it will be easy to see when it needs to be cleaned, but with a darker one it may be more difficult. With a darker carpet simply lift up a corner and tap the back of the rug, should any dust or fibres be released it will be evident that it needs cleaning.

Most people would think the best way to keep their rug clean of dirt and dust would be to vacuum it. This is a common misconception, because the strong suction of the vacuum cleaner could actually pull the threads of the rug out. The best method for keeping your rug free of dust on a daily basis is using a good strong hand brush.

In addition to this form of daily cleaning, once a month or so you could position your rug to beat it. Your rug can be freed of dirt and dust quite effectively using a traditional cane beater.

Normally, this will be effective enough in keeping your rug in a healthy, clean condition. Should there be any accidents or stains there are good, efficient methods of dealing with them.

Once every two years, your Persian carpet will need a good, thorough shampoo clean. This would best be done by a professional carpet cleaner, and one who specialises in Oriental rugs. Alternatively you could shampoo clean your carpet yourself, although you would need to ensure you are using the right products so as not to damage your carpet.
