Stain Removal
A carpet is usually placed in the home, somewhere it is at risk of stains and daily accidents. The best remedy for stains and accidents is haste. Here are some tips on dealing with common accidents:
Urine:
Having pets around your home could mean this might be a very real problem for some oriental rug owners. The first thing you must do is to absorb the excess moisture with an undyed piece of material. The area should then be sponged with lukewarm water several times. A good remedy for the urine is to mix two tablespoons of white vinegar with half a litre of lukewarm water which you can then work into the stained area. Once you have cleaned the area with this mixture, you must then sponge it off with lukewarm water once again. To dry your cleaned area, a good method is to place layers of blotting paper or undyed cotton on the wet area and then weigh it down with heavy books or any other heavy object.
Tea, Coffee, Soft Drinks, Milk, Juices, Alcohol, Ice Cream:
These are probably the most common stains and spills that will occur to your carpet. As with a urine stain, the first thing to do is to absorb the excess moisture as quickly as possible using blotting paper or undyed cotton. To prepare a “shampoo” that will clean the stain, you can mix one tablespoon of non-alkaline detergent with half a litre of lukewarm water. This mixture can then be applied to the area repeatedly. An efficient way of drying the area afterwards is by using a hair-dryer on its lowest setting, or even blotting the area with paper or undyed cotton, although this may take longer.
Cocoa, Gravy, Chocolate, Shoe Polish:
Hastily absorb all the excess moisture. Mix one cup of soapless carpet shampoo with four cups of lukewarm water to make a mixture that you will use to rub into the affected area. Once this is done, rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water and blot the area with blotting paper or undyed cotton to dry it thoroughly.
